Shoulder Season
03:06
|
|||
Waiting on the shoulder season, waiting on the sun
Waiting on the robin to sing that familiar song
I guess I’m dreaming, dreams don’t get you through
Waiting on the dawn to break, I’m waiting on my love
Waiting on the dawn to break and carry me above
I guess I’m hoping, hope don’t get you through
Looking at the dashboard, it never sees but the road does wind
Just collects the grime from a long and dusty road
Waiting on the radio, I’m waiting on a song
Yes, I know the words, but I don’t know where from
I might be humming a lost and lonely tune
Looking at the dashboard, it never sees but the road does wind
Just collects the grime from a long and dusty road
Looking at the dashboard, it never sees but the road does wind
Just collects the grime from a long and dusty road

Murder, I Wrote
02:55
|
|||
She left here she never planned to stay, now I pray she comes back some day
Holes were dug and the earth filled in, everything goes quiet
I’ll do my best just to tell it true, a concept that she never knew
Now when she lies it’s six feet down, lying in that cold cold ground
Clothes on the line now scattered in the wind, lights left on by the door
Hands still shaking, I’m trembling, Lord, she can’t hear me crying anymore
I’ll wait here, no sense to run with dirty hands and a rusty gun
When lawmen find me, here I’ll be, prisons all that's left for me
Scratched my name off the hollow tree, taking back what belonged to me
Smoke from the first burns my eyes, everything goes quiet
Clothes on the line now scattered in the wind, lights left on by the door
Hands still shaking, I’m trembling, Lord, she can’t hear me crying anymore
She left here, planned to run away, now she’s back and she’s here to stay

Take A Dive
02:39
|
|||
I was the underdog on the undercard of an underground gambling ring,
hired to go down in the seventh, visualized the whole damn thing
So I’m floating like a butterfly and stinging like one too, easy money, New York City, Friday night
Now my conscience took control somewhere inside the second round “if you beat him, they’d
redeem you, such a noble turnaround”
But the devil on my shoulder starts to whisper in my ear “you’ll be sleeping in the Hudson if you win”
Take a dive, take a dive, swallow all your stupid pride, now is not the time to be a better man
Hit the canvas like a stone and you might make it out alive, you don’t mess around with crooked bookie men
I knocked him out bout thirty seconds shy of the fourth bell and when the family’s captain
showed up I knew things were gone to hell
In the alley waiting for me with a barrel full of lead, Joey Mad Dog put two bullets in my head
When they buried me in Cherokee under the setting sun they were not aware I’d made a bet at fifty-five to one
Now my wife and kids are on a train to Philadelphia with a suitcase for the winnings, set for life
Take a dive, take a dive, swallow all your stupid pride, now is not the time to be a better man
Hit the canvas like a stone and you might make it out alive, you don’t mess around with crooked bookie men

Keeping Time
03:12
|
|||
Saw my breath on the morning sun, frost that breaks the day, hoped that hour would never find me
Clocks are now all an hour behind, saving daylight or just piece of mind, being rich is having time worth saving
It’s been hard to find the ways to breathe in without just counting days
I’ve been keeping time even if that's not entirely true
Clocked in going way too slow, the sun was in my eyes, I warned you never follow behind me
Take five and remember the song, the one where the love grows cold, it was written between fits of laughing
It’s been hard to find the ways to breathe in without just counting days
I’ve been keeping time even if that's not entirely true
It’s been hard to find the ways to breathe in without just counting days
I’ve been keeping time even if that's not entirely true
It’s been hard to find the ways to breathe in without just counting days
I’ve been keeping time even if that's not entirely true

Dandelion
03:55
|
|||
Thought you were a flower, like a flower I watched you grow, left my heart out on the line
For all those hours, you became the girl I know, turned out you were a dandelion
You went away with the first chance that you got, left behind the life you knew
Trading correction lines for a free ride on highway 9 like a drifter passing through
Thought you were a flower, like a flower I watched you grow, left my heart out on the line
For all those hours, you became the girl I know, turned out you were a dandelion
When you came home taking shelter from your storm, saw the pain in your weary eyes
But I didn't care to know, I forgave you years ago for all those meaningless goodbyes
Thought you were a flower, like a flower I watched you grow, left my heart out on the line
For all those hours, you became the girl I know, turned out you were a dandelion, turned out you were a dandelion, turned out you were a dandelion

Black Fly
03:22
|
|||
Lord knows, I just couldn't say, should I go, should I stay
Kinda feel like that black fly buzzin’ round the window
Time will tell, it always does anyway, should I go, should I stay
Kinda feel like that sunrise creepin’ on the hillside
Hold on, it’s another night, brother come down
This time I swear I can stick around
At least in the meantime, I don’t know about it
If you see me on the highway thumbs just out for the ghosts going my way
Kinda feel like I’m drinkin’ that moonshine, I’m feeling kinda retro
Found a coin and just couldn’t tell, another pretty face got worn out anyway
Kinda feel like I left it somewhere, still trying to find me
Hold on, it’s another night, brother come down
This time I swear I can stick around
At least in the meantime, I don’t know about it
Lord knows I just couldn't say, should I go, should I stay
Kinda feel like that black fly buzzin’ round the window

Here's Hoping
02:30
|
|||
Take my money, it’s too easy, watch me fall in line
I’ll fold, I swear to God they catch me every time
Here’s hoping, eyes open, coins falling down to the floor
Here’s hoping, eyes open, coins falling down to the floor
They’ll talk, sitting oh so pretty on their hands instead
It’s gross, but it's how it goes when you’re grifting
Here’s hoping, eyes open, coins falling down to the floor
Here’s hoping, eyes open, coins falling down to the floor

Waiting Game
03:21
|
|||
Nobody said it was easy, that’s just the way that it goes
And if you want it completely, we’ll go to war I suppose
Figure out what your intentions really mean
When you’re ready I’ll be waiting
You’ve got a way with deception, I see the truth in your eyes
But some day karma will catch you, you’ll never outrun the lies
Figure out what your intentions really mean
When you’re ready I’ll be waiting
Figure out what your intentions really mean
When you’re ready I’ll be waiting
Figure out what your intentions really mean
When you’re ready I’ll be waiting

Bullshit & Lies
04:02
|
|||
I get long-winded when I’ve been drinking, I’m gonna tell you about it now
It started in high school, never been lied to, most of us weren't even very tall
Bullshit and lies is all I wanna do
I took a little detail, did some time in retail, could’ve sold a story bout’ twice as tall
Knew a guy who worked in movies, said he never knew me, said he could see right through it all
Bullshit and lies is all I wanna do
Bullshit and lies is all I wanna do
But you don’t see nothing, it doesn't matter anyway
And you won't say nothing when they come looking round your way
Tried my hand at being gracious, found it kinda tasteless, then I just fainted and I hit the floor
Could've used a meditation on pricey education, you do the math and I’ll hang the doors
Bullshit and lies is all I wanna do
Bullshit and lies is all I wanna do
It’s all I wanna do
It’s all I wanna do
It’s all I wanna do
It’s all I wanna do
It’s all I wanna do
It’s all I wanna do
It’s all I wanna do
It’s all I wanna do

Flush & Plumb
02:20
|
|||
Right after I built that house, it said right to my face
“the only way I’ll die is by the fire’s steady pace”
“How do you know?” I said, “did I build you right to code?
The only way to tell is with some time and pointed loads.”
I’ve been trying to come around
Fire can’t be the only thing that brings you down
The bugs are creeping in, the mice not far behind
We made outside in, or did we just blur the lines?
“You’re getting old”, I said, “I can hear it in the wind”
“That’s just the song she’s signing for me my friend”
I’ve been trying to come around
Fire can’t be the only thing that brings you down
Pipes sprung leaks, the water soaks the bones
City man says “nah, we can’t have mouldy homes”
The gig is up, you might just be retired
The thing that got you, well, it never was the fire
I’ve been trying to come around
Fire can’t be the only thing that brings you down
I’ve been trying to come around
Fire can’t be the only thing that brings you down

Old No. 9 Train
02:51
|
|||
If you see me on that old number nine train coming back from East of Town
Just remember I was never there if anyone asks around
I’m hiding from the truth, I don’t know what to do, I can be someone else too, yeah
Could’ve sworn that I laid it all down but something just wasn’t clear
Who'd've known that the covers got blown and here I am standing here
I’m hiding from the truth, I don’t know what to do, I can be someone else too, yeah
Spend it all down to my last dime, I ain’t got troubles they’re just down the line they told me
I’d be lying if I said “alright, I won’t try nothing, please stay the night”, they sold me
Who could tell, maybe I’d do it all anyway and end up all alone
Crossing wires and putting out fires just to light one on my nose
I’m hiding from the truth, I don’t know what to do, I can be someone else too, yeah
Spend it all down to my last dime, I ain’t got troubles there just down the line they told me
I’d be lying if I said “alright, I won’t try nothing, please stay the night”, they sold me
If you see me on that old number nine train coming back from East of town
Just remember I was never there if anyone asks around
I’m hiding from the truth, I don’t know what to do, I can be someone else too

Bad Talk
02:44
|
|||
Dig in your heels, you’re hoping for another one, the days still young but you’re trying to hold onto
a thousand-pound fight that you just can't win, you give a lot of push but you never give in
Should’ve never taken the time, back and forth, never found the line, should’ve known to keep it easy
Look now, your backs against the wall, oh God that storys getting tall, spin me round and let me out of here
Fight on fighters, that’s what they do, lying bout loving life to tell it true, it’s an easy lie to tell
Weighing in on things to do, things that’ll never affect you, tearing apart my good intentions
Look now, your backs against the wall, oh God that storys getting tall, spin me round and let me out of here

Better Times
03:40
|
|||
Arguing my point like it’s a war but I don’t even know what we’re fighting for
And in the morning I’ll apologise for the fool that’s trapped behind these gin-soaked eyes
All around you it shines, leading me and you to better times
So button up your coat and get back on that road, somewhere out there we will find our home
And somewhere in the night I hear you cry, for a moment your hearts whispering goodbye
So I’m on my way by the light of the Northern Star, I won’t rest until I meet you where you are
All around you it shines, leading me and you to better times
So button up your coat and get back on that road, somewhere out there we will find our home
All around you it shines, leading me and you to better times
So button up your coat and get back on that road, somewhere out there we will find our home
So button up your coat and get back on that road, somewhere out there we will find our home

Truth Be Told
02:38
|
|||
Let's not wait till I get tired and my eyes fill up with doubt
Singing all different types of stories til all our hearts, they gave out
Yeah, what might've been is easy now, it wasn't then, truth be told we never cared anyhow
Let’s not wait till I get older and my hair turns white and grey
To admit we kinda sorta let some of that time fade away
Yeah, what might've been is easy now, it wasn't then, truth be told we never cared anyhow
Truth be told I coulda sold it many times down the line those days
Now I sit up in the sidelines and I pray
Yeah, what might've been is easy now, it wasn't then, truth be told we never cared anyhow
